Puppy Foundations
Puppy Social Foundations
Building Confident, Resilient Puppies
Puppy Social Foundations are supportive, behaviour-focused sessions designed to help puppies develop the confidence, resilience and social skills they need as they grow.
Socialisation is about much more than meeting as many dogs and people as possible.
Puppies are constantly learning from their experiences. The quality of those experiences — and how safe, confident and supported they feel during them — can influence how they navigate the world as they develop.
Our sessions provide a structured environment where puppies can explore, learn, interact and experience new things at their own pace, while owners learn how to understand and support them.
What We Work On
Every session is shaped around the puppies attending, but we may work on:
Appropriate puppy greetings
Healthy and appropriate play
Canine body language and communication
Social manners and boundaries
Learning when another puppy needs space
Managing excitement and arousal
Disengaging from play
Confidence around different dogs and people
Exploring new environments and experiences
Handling and touch
Building independence and resilience
Calmness around other puppies
Helping puppies learn that they don't need to greet everyone
The aim isn't to create a puppy who wants to play with every dog they see.
It's to help your puppy develop the confidence and communication skills to navigate the world around them, while helping you understand when they're comfortable, when they're unsure and when they need your support.
Socialisation Is More Than Play
Puppies don't need unlimited play to become socially confident dogs.
They also need to learn how to be around other dogs without interacting, how to recognise and respect boundaries, how to disengage from play and how to regulate themselves when things become exciting.
During Puppy Social Foundations, we'll help you recognise what appropriate play looks like and understand when an interaction needs a pause or when your puppy may need some additional space.
You'll begin learning your puppy's body language and recognising the subtle communication that can easily be missed.
Good socialisation isn't about how many experiences your puppy has — it's about how they experience them.
Building Confidence & Resilience
Growing up means encountering new people, dogs, environments, sounds, surfaces and situations.
Our aim isn't to prevent your puppy from ever feeling uncertain. Instead, we want to help them develop the confidence and resilience to experience something new, process it and recover.
Puppies are encouraged to explore at their own pace without being forced into interactions or experiences they're uncomfortable with.
We celebrate curiosity, thoughtful choices, recovery and growing confidence — not just obedience.
Prevention Starts Early
Puppyhood gives us an incredible opportunity to build strong foundations before everyday challenges become established behaviour patterns.
Alongside social skills, we'll help you understand common puppy behaviours and recognise early signs that your puppy may be finding something difficult.
You'll learn more about your individual puppy rather than trying to create a "perfect" dog.
Because barking, growling, becoming over-excited, feeling unsure or needing space aren't signs that you've failed.
They're communication — and learning to recognise that communication early gives you the opportunity to support your puppy as they develop.
Learning Together
Puppy Social Foundations isn't just for puppies.
You'll learn how to read your puppy's body language, recognise appropriate social interactions, understand when they need support and become more confident making decisions for them.
There is no pressure for your puppy to interact and no expectation that every puppy should develop at exactly the same pace.
No judgement. No pressure. Just puppies and their humans learning together.
How Long Are the Sessions?
£12.50 per puppy | Approximately 1 hour
Owners attend and are actively involved throughout.
Sessions focus on confidence, resilience, appropriate social interaction, body language, communication and positive real-world experiences rather than traditional obedience.
Puppy Social Foundations are about giving you and your puppy the understanding and skills to start navigating the world together — building strong foundations for adolescence and beyond.
